Lady Flora Hastings

Lady Flora Hastings was a lady in waiting to the Duchess of Kent until her death in 1839. Queen Victoria did not like Flora, because she supported the Kensington System along with her mother, the Duchess of Kent and John Conroy. Before her death, she began experiencing pain and swelling in her lower abdomen. She died due to a liver tumour, although Louise Lehzen had made up the rumour that Flora had been pregnant.

Death

Flora's death caused the popularity of Queen Victoria to fall. The British population were appalled by the Queen and Lehzen's actions, because they started a rumour that Sir John Conroy had gotten her pregnant. The pain she was feeling was actually a cancerous liver tumour, which she died from. Conroy did not want to let the situation drop when Flora did, so he published an article in a public newspaper.
